A superfan for American rock band The Killers was elated to be welcomed on stage for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Scottish teacher Kyle Grieve was asked by frontman Brandon Flowers to play one of the biggest hits from the band, to which he duly obliged – of course.

The drumming instructor, 28, impressively played For Reasons Unknown in front of the 20,000-strong crowd at the Falkirk Stadium on Tuesday.

The confident musician caught the band’s attention the night previously at the first of two gigs by the rockers.

He held up a sign asking if he could drum but wasn’t granted his wish. He chanced his arm the next next and this time he was invited up by Brandon.

Speaking to Falkirk Live he admitted he was absolutely buzzing following the performance.

“I still can’t believe this happened, and I can’t stop watching all the videos,” he gushed.

“This has been a life time dream and there are no words to describe what it means to me or how I actually feel.”

He went on to reveal how persistence was the key to realising his dream. He admitted Brandon told him he held his sign up too late on the first show, with the singer telling the teacher: “If you want to drum you need to mean business.”

That led to him taking a new sign on Tuesday which read: “Tonight I mean business.”

After being ushered up onto stage and performing, Kyle admitted it was “the best feeling ever”.

He continued: “I was nervous about catching Brandon’s eye and being invited up but once I actually got on stage, I was relaxed and it was the best feeling ever.”

“The crowd reaction was awesome, they were all cheering, the buzz was just incredible.”

He later told BBC : “It’s all I ever wanted to do. The Killers were my biggest influence, it’s because of them I took up the drums.”

He confessed he had been to see the band 14 times in the last 10 years and praised the crowd for their great reaction to his impromptu performance.

“The crowd were great, it was all surreal,” he added. “I’m looking forward to my band’s tour now and I just feel all the hard work is paying off.”
